OVERVIEW OF THE TOUR

This tour takes you on a journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Pakistan, allowing you to experience the diverse culture and natural beauty of the region. Starting in the capital, the tour takes you through the Swat Valley, up to Ayun, and then to stay with the Kalash tribe. You will continue your journey to Mastuj, crossing over the Shandur Pass, and heading to Gilgit before reaching the captivating Hunza Valley. 

Next, you will retrace your steps down the Karakoram Highway, stopping in Gilgit, and then venturing out east to explore Shigar, Khaplu, and Skardu. The final leg of your journey takes you to the Deosai Plateau, Fairy Meadows, and back down through Naran before ending in Islamabad.

Tour Plan

Upon arrival in Islamabad Airport, you will be greeted by one of or representatives who will take you to your hotel. This afternoon, begin your tour with a visit to the Institute of Folk Heritage, also known as Lok Virsa, a small ethnological museum showcasing a variety of customs and artifacts from across Pakistan. Next, proceed to the Faysal Mosque, an impressive structure built in the 1970s and once the largest in the world. Visit Margalla Hills to appreciate the stunning views over the city before enjoying dinner at one of the many restaurants in Islamabad.

Today, your journey begins by heading north through the Northwest Frontier and into the picturesque Swat Valley. Follow the GT Road and Malakand Pass, Butkhela, Chakdara, and Saidu Sharif. The region provides an excellent opportunity to explore its ancient Buddhist history. After checking into your hotel, you’ll visit the local museum, housing numerous exquisite Gandharan artifacts and other Buddhist sites. Then, explore the renowned archaeological site of Butkhara, one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in Ghandhara.

After enjoying breakfast, you will begin your spectacular drive through the breathtaking landscape. As you pass through Chakdara, reflect on the historical significance of this area. Continue your journey through the tunnel before reaching the ancient kingdom of Chitral. Situated at the entrance to the Kalash Valley, Ayun estate offers stunning views of the surrounding area. This lovely, laid-back place is the perfect spot to end your day, surrounded by natural beauty and rich history.

After breakfast, you will drive into the Kalash Valley of Rumbur village. The journey typically takes around two hours, although for those who prefer, walking the final few miles through the stunning valley is also possible. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to interact with the Kalash people and take leisurely walks around the village. The Kalash, with a population of around 3,000, constitute the smallest religious minority in Pakistan. Unlike other minorities in the country, they reside exclusively in a specific geographical region – the three valleys of Birir, Bumburet, and Rumbur. Positioned in the Hindu Kush between the Afghan Border and Chitral Valley.

After having breakfast, take a drive to the Bumburet Valley, the most scenic of the three valleys. It is adorned with villages and vast, fertile areas used for cultivation. Upon reaching there, make sure to spend ample time with the Kalash families, immersing yourself in their culture and lifestyle, and understanding how they gradually adapting to the modern world.

Today, you will depart from the breathtaking Kalash Valley and embark on a journey that will take you through the magnificent Hindu Kush Mountains. As you descend the winding, rocky tracks, you will be captivated by the soaring peaks and rugged terrain that characterize this majestic region. Your destination is the sleepy and conservative mountain town of Chitral, nestled among the towering peaks. Upon arriving in Chitral, you may have the opportunity to witness a thrilling game of mountain polo, if a match is being played. This unique and traditional sport, which is native to the region, adds an element of excitement to your visit. After a day of adventure and exploration, you will check into your hotel for a well–deserved night’s rest.

After breakfast, you will embark on a picturesque journey to Mastuj, which is located 110 km north-east of Chitral town. This drive is known for its breathtaking scenery as you traverse the Mastuj Valley, passing by notable landmarks such as Tirich Mir and BoniZong. Upon reaching Mastuj, you can take a stroll around the village before retiring to your accommodation. Before entering Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor at the top of Yarkhund Valley, you will experience the beauty and drama of this region’s landscape.

Today, after enjoying your breakfast, you will embark on a thrilling journey to the Shandur Pass. As you drive towards this picturesque destination, take a break at the top of the pass, which stands at an elevation of 3,800 meters. This is the perfect spot to unwind with a warm cup of tea while admiring the breathtaking views. You can embark on a leisurely walk to the Langer, a vast, beautiful plain that serves as a grazing ground for yaks, sheep and dozs. This is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a delightful picnic lunch surrounded by nature’s splendor. Afterward, you will travel to Yasin Valley, known for its stunning natural beauty, lush greenery, rivers and mountains. The valley is also home to diverse flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and trekkers.

After enjoying a healthy breakfast, you will embark on a journey to Gilgit, a captivating city nestled in the heart of Northern Pakistan. This region is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, making the trip an unforgettable experience. Gilgit city is the capital city of Gilgit-Baltistan and is the political, administrative and business hub of the region.

After breakfast, take a short tour to visit the Christian cemetery and the Chinese monument. These historic sites are in a serene location that offers glimpses into the region’s diverse culture and history. As you continue your journey along the Karakoram Highway, you will be treated to breathtaking views of Mount Rakaposhi, which stands tall at 7,788 meters. For lunch, stop by the Rakaposhi View Restaurant, which offers the longest continuous vertical view anywhere on earth. From this vantage point, you can witness the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After lunch, drive to the picturesque Hunza Valley, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. You will reach Karimabad, the main town of the Hunza Valley and transfer to hotel.

Today, start your day by walking along a water channel above Karimabad town to enjoy breathtaking views of the valley. Then, head back to town for lunch at one of the local restaurants. Afterward, you’ll have time to relax, shop, and explore before visiting the renowned 15th century Baltit fort, which was once the seat of power in the Hunza state and has been restored by the Aga Khan Culture Service, Pakistan and is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit Duikar also known as Eagle’s Nest, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Rakaposhi, Ultar Sar, and Ladyfinger Peak. In the late afternoon, return to your hotel.

Today, you will start your day by exploring the beautiful Gojal Valley in the upper Hunza region. It is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and strategic location. The valley is known for its diverse flora and fauna, pristine glaciers, and crystal-clear rivers. In January 2010, a massive landslide blocked the Hunza River, forming a stunning azure lake that submerged about 25km of the Karakoram Highway. This natural wonder now provides a picturesque backdrop for visitors. You can enjoy boat rides towards the northern shore and capture the famous Cathedral Peaks also known as Passu cones in your Photographs. You will have a chance to visit the Hussaini Suspension Bridge and the surrounding villages to learn more about the area and its people.

Today, embark on a remarkable journey south along the renowned Karakoram Highway towards Gilgit. This iconic route will offer breathtaking views of the majestic Rakaposhi Mountain, as you pause at the Rakaposhi viewpoint. The journey will allow you to revel in the splendor of nature and the winding road ahead. Explore Gilgit city, the local bazaar, and the nearby places.

After breakfast, you will drive to Skardu which is a breathtaking journey through the majestic landscapes of northern Pakistan. The route offers stunning views of the Karakoram Mountain range and the Indus River, making it a popular choice for travelers seeking adventure and natural beauty. As the road ascends, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The journey includes crossing the famous junction point of three great mountain ranges: the Karakoram, Himalaya, and Hindu Kush. Skardu town serves as a gateway to some of the world’s highest peaks, including K2 and Gasherbrum.

After having breakfast, embark on a walking tour of the 14th-century Amburiq Mosque, a UNESCO award-winning site for its restoration. Admire the intricate architecture and history of this spiritual landmark before continuing your journey. After leaving the Amburiq Mosque, continue your drive to Khaplu and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, explore the beautiful Khaplu Palace, a historical site that showcases the region’s rich culture heritage. Additionally, visit the nearby village and the Khanqah, which once served as a place of spiritual retreat and a home for journeymen.

Today, explore the historic Khaplu Palace also known as Yabgo Khar, is an architectural marvel dates to the 1840s and served as the residence of the Raja of Khaplu. The palace’s intricate woodwork, traditional Balti architecture, and commanding position overlooking the valley make it a must-visit for history enthusiasts and architecture aficionados. You can explore the enchanting Chaqchan Mosque, a 700-year-old mosque built entirely of wood without the use of any nails. This remarkable structure stands as testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage and architectural ingenuity. Khaplu Valley provides ample opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as mountaineering, rock climbing, and river rafting.

You will be transported from the ancient kingdom of Khaplu, 105 kilometers west to Skardu, on a journey lasting around 2 hours. Take a leisurely stroll through the town’s main bazaar to the ‘organic village’ via an old trail at the foot of Kharpocho Fort. You can also watch a game of Polo at the town’s main field and visit the K2 Museum at the K2 Motel. This is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the capital of Baltistan and again insight into the lives of the locals and the mountaineers who frequent the area.

After breakfast, you will drive to Deosai National Park. This stunning plateau, located at an elevation of 4,000 meters, is a remarkable wildlife wilderness that is home to a variety of flora and fauna, particularly during certain times of the year when the area is filled with wildflowers. Take a break at Deosai National Park and enjoy a spectacular view of the Himalayas. Continue your journey to the alpine meadows of Astore and Rama Lake, where you can experience the beauty of these high-altitude ecosystems. These stunning destinations are perfect for a leisurely walk or a more adventurous hike, allowing you to immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the region.

Today, embark on the road journey towards Chilas, leaving behind the picturesque alpine meadows of Rama and Astore. As you progress, you will be captivated by the breathtaking landscape of the Astore Gorge, one of the most dramatic and impressive sites in the world. Ultimately, reach Raikot Bridge and switch to local jeeps to navigate the narrow and steep mountain road that leads to Fairy Meadows. Although the drive may be adventurous, the destination is undeniably worth the journey. The Astore Gorge, a remarkable natural phenomenon, showcases the power and beauty of nature. This geological formation has been shaped over thousands of years by erosion, creating a stunning landscape that captivates travelers.

Fairy Meadows, also known as jut, is a verdant, grassy pasture situated near the base camp of the colossal Nanga Parbat Mountain, with stands at an impressive 8,126 meters. Today, you will embark on a hike towards the Nanga Parbat base camp, meandering through lush green meadows and dense pine forest. The journey is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for avid hikers and nature enthusiasts alike. As you trek through the verdant meadows and dense forests, the awe-inspiring sight of Nanga Parbat looms in the distance. This majestic mountain serves as a constant reminder of the challenges and rewards that lie ahead.

Today, as you bid farewell to the serene haven, you commence your descent towards Naran. The journey takes you through breathtaking landscapes and offer awe-inspiring views of the surrounding mountain ranges. As you approach the 4100-meter-high Babusar Pass, make a brief stop to soak in the majestic sights of the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindu Kush Mountain ranges. Continue on your journey to Naran, a picturesque town nestled in the stunning Kaghan Valley and serves as a gateway to beautiful natural wonders of the region. You can explore the nearby mountains, lakes, and national parks, providing you with countless opportunities to connect with nature and create lasting memories.

Today, you will continue your journey, making a stop in the captivating Buddhist university town of Taxila, which dates to the Ghandahran era of Alexander the Great. This ancient city offers a wealth of historical and cultural attractions, providing a unique insight into the region’s rich past. After spending time in Taxila, you will proceed to the modern capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, where you will spend your final night. Islamabad, founded in 1961, is a well-planned city that offers a blend of contemporary and traditional architecture, making it a fitting end to your journey.

This morning, after breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your flight. The tour will end at Islamabad.
